Stenhouse (or Stonehouse) was a barony in Lanark.

David Mowat, of Stenhouse. He got a charter of the baronies of Stenhouse in Lanark as well as Brochton, Winkiston and Burelfield, all in Peebles, from Robert III (1390-1406).2 Received the barony of Robertoun from Robert III, and is said to be the first Mowat of Busbie.13 No contemporary sources has however been found to confirm this.

Sir John Mowat, of Stenhouse. There seems to be no contemporary records of him.

David Mowat, of Stenhouse. He had a sasine of the lands of Brochtoun and Wingstoun (etc.) in the county of Peebles in 1445.10 James III confirmed a grant from David to his illegitimate son John 5 December 1465 of the lands of Moite, Knokintebir, Bogside, Corshous, Busby, Murehouse and Robertoun.4

Alexander Mowat, of Stenhouse. He got a sasine of the lands of Winkstoun and Burrelfeild in the county of Peebles in 1476.11 Withness 14 July 14941 and 18 December 15065. He got a charter of the barony of Brochtoun from the king 27 January 1506-7.12 He died under the banner of James IV which most likely means in the battle of Flodden, where the king died as well, 9 September 1513.6
